Accessibility Info

Queer PowerPoint is committed to improving access to all of our live events.

What happens in the show

Each Queer PowrPoint show generally runs for approximately 90 minutes. We start with a DJ for around 30 minutes, then have our first bracket of three speakers, a short break, then another two - three speakers, then the DJ to finish.

This is a relaxed performance environment - you can move around, make noise, or leave and return as needed. Expect a casual, supportive atmosphere where audience interaction and reactions are welcomed.

You'll experience:

  •  5-6 powerpoint talks, each around 10 minutes long

  • Our co-hosts Harriet and Xanthe guide you through the evening, introducing each presenter.

  • A DJ plays music before the show, during breaks, and afterwards.

Sound

Our events feature a local queer DJ playing music before and after the show, and in the break between presentations. Our DJs maintain moderate volume levels that allow for conversation. All speakers use microphones for clear amplification. Speakers will sometimes play video content, or use sound effects in their presentations.. The music played between brackets is generally upbeat but at a level that allows for comfortable conversation.

Light & Visual Content

PowerPoint presentations are projected onto a large screen or wall. Text is generally large and high-contrast for readability. We maintain moderate lighting levels throughout the venue - house lights are kept partially up during presentations to allow for comfortable movement and note-taking. There are no strobe effects or rapid light changes in the house lights. There is a large amount of visual content included in presentations, including animations, gifs, video content and some flashing lights. Please reach out if you have any specific concerns around LX or visual content.

Seat Width

We ask venues to list this information on their websites. Most venues offer a mix of chairs with and without armrest. Standing room is usually available at the back of venues for those who prefer it. We endeavour to accommodate specific seating requests - just let us know your requirements when booking. Our relaxed performance environment means you're welcome to move around or change seats during the show if you need to get more comfortable.
